Verizon allocates $10 million for providing COVID-19 relief services

Verizon has announced to support communities by contributing $10 million to provide relief services for people impacted by the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. The company has tripled its monthly data allowance for its Verizon Innovative Learning schools. It has committed to allocate an amount of $10 million to nonprofits for supporting first responder healthcare workers and students.

Hans Vestberg, Chairman and CEO, Verizon, reportedly stated that the company stands ready to support the community members during such challenging times. The company will continue to work closely with partners to offer resources and care for people in need, he further added.

Verizon has been helping first responders by contributing a combined $5 million to the Center for Disaster Philanthropy COVID-19 Response Fund and Direct Relief, both aiming to support healthcare workers on the front lines.

The CDP COVID-19 Response Fund has been focusing on local social and nonprofit organizations working in areas with numerous affected individuals and helping vulnerable populations and healthcare workers, including those in quarantine. The amount allocated by Verizon will help support containment, preparedness, response and recovery activities for people affected by COVID-19 and for the first responders.

The donation made by Verizon to Direct Relief will help facilitate healthcare professionals responding to coronavirus (COVID-19) with personal protective equipment and other critical-care equipment. In the U.S., Direct Relief is offering personal protective equipment, such as protective masks, exam gloves and isolation gowns to healthcare establishments in areas with confirmed COVID-19 cases.

For the record, Verizon Innovative Learning, established in 2014, addresses hurdles to digital inclusion by delivering free internet access, a technology-driven curriculum, and free 1:1 device to some of the country’s most under-resourced students. The information increase will influence 90,000 students and teachers within Verizon Innovative Learning schools and support them by providing increased access to remote instruction as coronavirus (COVID-19) has been continuously affecting school operations.
