Nuro, the robotics firm transforming local commerce, and Kroger, the largest American grocery retailer, have jointly announced the inauguration of their autonomous grocery delivery service in Houston. As per trusted sources, the novel service would be made available via two stores of Kroger in Houston and will serve consumers residing in four local zip codes.

Reportedly, both the firms have been operating a first-of-its-kind, popular self-driving grocery delivery service in Scottsdale, Arizona since August 2018. However, the service was limited to only a single zip code.

Co-founder of Nuro, Dave Ferguson was reportedly quoted saying that it is being witnessed firsthand how enthusiastic customers in Arizona are delivered their Kroger groceries by a self-driving vehicle of the company. Texas has been at the forefront in encouraging self-driving innovation and the Nuro is delighted to be a part of that future of Houston – a welcoming, diverse, and dynamic metropolitan city that the company is excited to serve and explore with the autonomous delivery service, Ferguson further added.

Chief Digital Officer at Kroger, Yael Cosset reportedly commented that the company’s Arizona pilot program affirmed the benefits and flexibility provided by self-driving vehicles and the extent to which consumers are open to more unique solutions. Kroger operates 102 stores in Houston which is an energetic market that just accepts technology and digital advancement. It has always been a shared vision of Kroger and Nuro to scale the initiative to newer markets by utilizing world-changing technology and begin a new kind of delivery service for consumers, Cosset further added.

According to a press release by Kroger, customers in Scottsdale would continue to have access to delivery via its established service available via frysfood.com.
