IDE Water Technologies has reportedly signed an agreement with MCGM (Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai) to develop a seawater desalination plant that can be further expandable up to 400 MLD.

For the unversed, Israel’s IDE Water Technologies is the world’s leading provider of desalination and water treatment solutions. The company specializes in the construction, operation, development, and engineering of advanced thermal and membrane seawater desalination facilities as well as industrial water treatment plants.

IDE Water Technologies essentially provides around 3 million cubic meters of high-quality water globally. The company also has also partnered with multifarious customer groups such as oil & mining, refineries, municipalities, and power plants in all aspects of water treatment projects.

MCGM will bid for the operation as well as project development on the Swiss Challenge method, with IDE having the authority of the first refusal. This project will help in diversifying the drinking water sources of the metropolitan areas of Mumbai.

Being the most populous Indian city, Mumbai encounters an average daily consumption of industrial, commercial, and domestic water of around 4.4 billion liters. IDE’s seawater desalination plant in Manori will aid Mumbai to overcome water shortage by providing a reliable supply of high-quality water at a reduced cost.

IS Chahal, Municipal Commissioner of MCGM is of the opinion that bringing IDE’s industry-leading desalination technology to Mumbai will benefit the citizens as well as commercial businesses which rely on water supply on a regular basis, simultaneously preserving the environment.

Alon Tavor, the CEO of IDE believes that the partnership with MCGM will provide a great opportunity to the citizens of Mumbai which will further tighten the long-term cooperative bond between Israel and India.

The agreement for the novel seawater desalination project between MCGM and IDE Water Technologies was signed on 28th June 2021 in the presence of important personnel from both Israel and India.
