The Home Depot Inc., the world’s largest home improvement retailer, is reportedly planning to employ 100,000 people across all its stores and warehouses. The company is gearing up for the upcoming spring season when demand for home-improvement products usually reach their peak.
Throughout the spring season every year, Home Depot has hired around 80,000 workers. For those unaware, the spring season is known to be the most sell time of the year for home improvement brands like Lowe's Cos Inc. and Home Depot.
To address the shortage of manpower, the home improvement retailer has accelerated the employee application process, with recruits being potentially hired within a day. However, the company did not disclose how quickly it makes hiring decisions.
As per the report, Home Depot has seen an increase in demand for its products since the COVID-19 outbreak as most of the population was stuck at houses due to the lockdowns imposed. People were also found to change their living spaces during these times.
Home Depot has also gained profits from professional builders and handymen after work on stalled projects resumed as the lockdown restrictions eased.
But the latest hiring spree comes at a time when businesses ranging from merchants to restaurants are experiencing significant unemployment problems. Even the fast-spreading Omicron variant has threatened businesses across the globe.
Home Depot currently has full-time and part-time employment opportunities, including that of customer service, sales, store support, trucking, and warehousing staff. The retailer is also likely to host a virtual spring career day event.
It is also worth mentioning that the labor needed to maintain the high volume of sales may not be that easy to find amidst Omicron fears, lack of childcare, and strong pandemic-induced savings, all of which narrowed the unemployment rate to 3.9% in December last year.
