Leading product development solutions provider, Altair, has reportedly entered the Avicenna Alliance, an international consortium dedicated to the deployment of simulation for enabling efficient and faster development of new healthcare solutions.
The development of new medicines and medical devices has traditionally involved wide testing on people, and often comprised large investments in products that eventually fail. Even when successful, the conventional product development process becomes lengthy and expensive.
On the other hand, computer-based simulation enables intelligent utilization of historical data and early recognition of the efficacy of proposed treatments. The work done by Altair and other participants of the Avicenna Alliance has minimized or eliminated the logistical and ethical challenges of testing experimental drugs on large numbers of people.
James Scapa, the Founder and CEO of Altair, has stated that it is time for healthcare product development to be taken to the digital age. The company is thrilled to receive the opportunity to make a positive contribution to Avicenna Alliance’s work, which provides the prospect of more efficient, affordable, and effective delivery of new diagnostics, medicines, and medical devices, added Scapa.
For the uninitiated, Avicenna Alliance was founded in 2016 and brings together shareholders in government, industry, and academia for the promotion of benefits of ‘in silico’ medicine to overcome the prohibitive delays and costs associated with traditional pharmaceutical testing, trials, and medical device development.
Thierry Marchal, the Secretary General at Avicenna Alliance, has stated that the requirement for faster development of innovative medical solutions has never been more noticeable, adding that the consortium is thrilled to welcome Altair as a new member of the alliance. Avicenna Alliance eagerly looks ahead to the valuable insight provided by Altair in terms of applying data analytics and advanced simulation for the rapid resolution of the most complex scientific challenges, added Marchal.
