Milken Institute introduces COVID-19 treatment and vaccine tracker

As nations across the globe continue to grapple with the novel COVID-19 outbreak, several institutes are trying come up with a vaccine to tackle this global pandemic. The Milken Institute, a non-profit think tank, is introducing a resource to help policymakers and the public to track progress in the development of vaccines and treatments for COVID -19.

According to sources, the tracker is maintained and developed by FasterCures, a center of the Milken Institute, with the help of advisory council which consists of former FDA chiefs, industry leaders, and a Nobel laureate researcher.

Speaking on which, Esther Krofah, Executive Director of FasterCures, said that the company is accelerating efforts to find novel vaccines and treatments, accelerate its working, hold the systems and its players accountable, and facilitate global discussion to develop long term, and durable solutions. The institute would promote effective strategies and approaches for tackling this global pandemic.

Reportedly, to tackle COVID-19, companies across the world are putting their best feet forward to develop novel vaccines and treatments. The institute’s COVID-19 treatment and vaccine development tracker leverages publically available resources to track the development of therapies to prevent and treat COVID-19.

It will include the U.S FDA-approved indications where applicable and basic information regarding the aim of each clinical trial.

The institute’s comprehensive online tracker monitors all COVID-19 research presently in development. It tracks a vaccine or treatment, from discovery to clinical trial, with the name of a firm undertaking a research. This tool will be update on regular basis.

Since the first case of coronavirus disease was diagnosed in Wuhan, China, COVID-19 has been spreading across the globe, affecting more than 200,000 people in 166 nations. Till now, the virus took the lives of over 8,700 people across the globe. The WHO (World Health Organization) announced it a pandemic on March 11, 2020.
